| TARLTON CREEK RESTORATION |
|
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC
Historically, the project area was once a residential lake, several dam failures which were ultimately left un-repaired lead to an unsightly, stagnant impoundment area. Beavers moved into the area and exacerbated the situation. For the City of Fayetteville and the adjacent landowners the constantly changing and overall unsafe conditions of the area were troublesome.
The project removed the remnants of the old dam failures (including the beaver dam) and removed the beaver from the area. A natural stream channel and associated wetlands were restored allowing the area to once again function in its pre-impoundment condition. Natural stream channel design and wetland vegetative plantings will re-establish a fully functioning stream and wetland complex ecosystem. These functions include flood storage, water-quality improvements, and wildlife and fish habitat. Construction was completed in 2006 and the site is now in the monitoring stages. |
